$200 Billion a Year to Put Families First
Have you been following the presidential debates? We have, and it’s been frustrating. Some candidates have talked about making big investments. Some have mentioned directing resources to communities that need it most. But our families have heard vague promises before, and they deserve better.
These families need details and commitments. These families are ready for real solutions.
Which is why we are calling for a 21st-century jobs program that invests at least $200 billion a year to create millions of good jobs for the communities that have suffered decades of disinvestment and systemic discrimination.
By ensuring that state and federal dollars are siphoned back into the communities that, for decades, have watched as money, resources, and opportunities were stolen from them, our families can finally have a real chance at unleashing their talents and taking control of their futures.
A bold investment in good jobs in these high-poverty communities can focus on meeting America’s needs for infrastructure, education, child care, and clean energy alternatives while providing crucial income and a secure future for the millions of Americans who need it most.
It’s time to tell 2016 presidential candidates: "We want action, not rhetoric. What will you do to get families in America’s most under-resourced communities back on track?”
